I'm deaf and I'm writing a YA book (draft of manuscript completed!) that expands on my experience of losing my hearing as a teenager, taking the fact that I can do things I really shouldn't be able to do (does it really make sense that even though I can't hear *anything* at all I can still sometimes have normal enough conversations with hearing people that they're are shocked to learn that I'm deaf?) just a little bit further. But the deaf part is the backdrop, it's really a friendship/ adventure story.
